Independent schools have a long history of excellence in educating children, and the maintenance of a high level of quality can be attributed to their independence. This creative vision requires the financial support of those who believe in their mission, which, at The Harris School, is the concomitant promotion of young children’s educational and emotional development.

The Harris School, designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt educational organization, is only partially supported by student tuition. The other sources of funding for our school include our Annual Fundraising Campaign. Capital Campaigns assure the ongoing maintenance, improvement, and expansion of our physical plant. Gifts and Planned Giving are also important to our funding and can include gifts made as an honorarium for a special person or a special day in your life or as a memorial to someone. Giving can take several forms including writing a check, making a contribution via MasterCard, VISA, or American Express, transferring stock to the school, providing for ongoing monthly or annual gifting, or making the school a beneficiary in your will. In the past Special Events and Galas have also contributed to our growth.

Endowment Funds complete our funding, which can include funds for a clinical director position and for tuition scholarships and which are initiated and supplemented through grant writing. A major source of support for our school has been the outstanding contributions of various major foundations in Houston and elsewhere. Our foundation donors have included the Barrow Family Foundation, Baxter Trust, Bridgeway Charitable Trust, Brown Foundation, Cameron Foundation, Clayton Fund, Elkins Foundation, Farish Foundation, Ray C.
